In Stardew Valley, completing special character requests is one of the best ways to build friendship and earn extra gold early in the game. One of the earliest quests you will receive in your mailbox comes from Robin the Carpenter, who has misplaced her favorite axe. Finding and returning this item is a simple task once you know where to search in Cindersap Forest.
Triggering the Lost Axe Quest
On the 11th day of Spring during your first year, Robin sends you a letter asking for help locating her missing axe. She mentions that she last used it near Leah's cottage, giving you a general direction to begin your search. Reading this mail automatically adds Robin's Lost Axe quest to your active journal.
There is no strict time limit to finish this task, so you can complete it whenever you have spare energy. However, completing it early provides a helpful financial boost when funds are tight. It also gives you a quick boost in friendship points with the local carpenter.
Finding Robin's Missing Axe
To locate the tool, head south from your farm into Cindersap Forest and travel toward the bottom right corner of the map. Pass Leah's cottage and continue heading further south past the drain pipe near the edge of the forest. You will find the lost axe sitting on the ground near the cliff edge surrounded by trees.
Simply walk up to the axe and interact with it to pick it up and place it in your inventory. Make sure you have at least one open inventory slot before picking it up so it does not get left behind. Once collected, your quest log will update to show that it is time to return the item to its owner.
Returning the Axe to Robin
With the item in your inventory, locate Robin to hand it over and receive your reward. Robin can usually be found working inside her Carpenter's Shop north of the town center, or walking nearby on certain days. Select the axe in your active inventory bar and speak directly to her to initiate the exchange.
Handing over the item will immediately trigger a quick dialogue thanking you for your assistance. The quest will automatically mark as complete in your journal once the conversation finishes. You will receive 250 gold directly into your account alongside a full friendship heart with Robin.
Benefits of Completing Early Requests
Fulfilling villager requests early in your playthrough lays a solid foundation for long-term farm development. Building higher friendship levels with Robin unlocks useful crafting recipes sent directly to your mailbox. Additionally, the extra currency helps purchase essential crop seeds or upgrades for your farm buildings during the early season.
Maintaining active relationships with town residents also enriches the narrative experience of farming life. Taking a few minutes to track down lost tools pays off both in practical rewards and social progress. Keeping an eye on your daily mail ensures you never miss out on these simple opportunities.
